A day at the port of Valldemossa

One of the most special villages in the Tramuntana mountains

Port de Sóller, located on the shores of the Mediterranean and at the heart of Mallorca’s northern coast, is a destination that offers the opportunity to discover not only one of the most special ports in the Mediterranean but also several unique places in the Tramuntana Mountains. Thanks to our port’s excellent location, we can explore several iconic Tramuntana villages, most of which are accessible via coastal routes that provide breathtaking landscapes. These include towns such as Sóller, Deià, Valldemossa, Estellencs, Banyalbufar, and Escorca. Each of these municipalities forms the core of the Tramuntana Mountains, bringing their own unique features, histories, and traditions. Today, we invite you to visit one of these charming towns, specifically, our neighboring village of Valldemossa, where art, the Mediterranean spirit, and traditional Mallorcan style come together beautifully.

FROM AIMIA HOTEL TO VALLDEMOSSA

There are several ways to reach Valldemossa from Aimia Hotel: whether by cycling for a sporty visit, taking the bus from Port de Sóller, or driving your own car. Since Aimia Hotel offers exclusive parking for guests, we’ll take the car for this trip. We’ll start heading toward Sóller and, after passing the Monument roundabout, take the right turn that leads to Deià.

Once on this route, we’ll enter the Tramuntana Mountains along a scenic coastal road, passing through Son Bleda. After about 15 to 20 minutes, we’ll arrive at Deià, the first village on our route. Continuing past Deià, we’ll drive another 15 minutes until we reach the Valldemossa gas station. Here, we’ll turn right towards the Port of Valldemossa.

FROM VALLDEMOSSA TO THE PORT

After turning right, and about 750 meters after leaving the village of Valldemossa, you’ll see a right turn leading to the winding Ma-1131 road down to the Port of Valldemossa. This narrow, serpentine road descends for approximately 6 kilometers until you reach the port.

Upon arrival, you’ll find Port de Valldemossa, also known as “Sa Marina,” a small coastal harbor nestled in the stunning Tramuntana Mountains. This 100% Mediterranean spot offers a genuine charm and relaxed atmosphere thanks to its rugged surroundings and modest buildings. Here, you can enjoy several cafés and restaurants, a small harbor, and a beach.

During the summer months, swimming in the port’s crystal-clear waters is a perfect experience. While the area is rocky, it provides an ideal place to cool off and connect directly with nature and the Mediterranean Sea. You can also wander through its picturesque streets, taking circular walks along the various trails around the port. These paths offer beautiful panoramic views of the area and rustic fishermen’s houses by the small pier, preserving the traditional Mallorcan and fishing character that truly represents the origins of these coastal villages. Without a doubt, a magical place to discover the essence and authentic culture of the Tramuntana coast’s inhabitants.

“SA MARINA” IN SUMMER

During the summer, Port de Valldemossa becomes the perfect refuge to escape the heat and the crowds. There are no large gatherings or overcrowded services, making it an ideal spot for those seeking peace and tranquility. Whether you want to enjoy a refreshing swim in clean waters or snorkel among rocks and fish, this place is perfect for a more intimate connection with nature.

Besides relaxing under the sun or swimming, by midday you can sit down at one of the few local restaurants and savor fresh seafood with stunning sea views. If you stay until the evening, you’ll experience an unforgettable sunset: the sun dipping into the sea with golden and orange hues, accompanied only by the gentle sound of the waves.

Alternatively, if you leave after lunch, you can make a stop in the center of Valldemossa before returning to Port de Sóller. This culturally rich town, especially lively in July and August, offers the chance to combine a coastal getaway with local events like the Festes de la Beata or the Chopin Festival at the Charterhouse, creating a perfect day blending nature, sea, and culture. We highly recommend visiting Valldemossa 100%, and you can learn more about it in our other article titled “Touring The North Coast of Mallorca: A Day Trip to Valldemossa by Car.”

Finally, after our day exploring Valldemossa and its Port, we will return to Aimia Hotel via the same road we came. We’ll arrive back at Port de Sóller in about 35 minutes, having experienced one of the most special spots along Mallorca’s northern coast. Once back, you can complete your day with a magical dinner at Airecel Restaurant.

The northern coast of Mallorca is a truly special place where nature, gastronomy, culture, and the Mediterranean essence of our island come together to offer a unique way to unwind and enjoy unforgettable days. Thanks to our excellent location, right in the heart of Port de Sóller, we can enjoy, explore, and discover these privileges in an unmatched and very special way.
