CYCLING AROUND SA FIGUERA: CIRCULAR ROUTE PORT DE SÓLLER - FORNALUTX

Sa Figuera Cycling Adventure: Exploring Port de Sóller to Fornalutx in the Tramuntana

The Tramuntana mountain range is known, among many other things, for being a fantastic place to enjoy both road and mountain biking. Its different routes, with options for all levels, run mostly through wonderful Mediterranean landscapes that invite us to discover unique places on the north coast of Mallorca. However, due to the Mediterranean climate, there are 2 perfect seasons for this sport: spring, with a very pleasant climate and much sunnier and warmer days; and autumn, which, for us, is the best time of the year to enjoy cycling and nature in the Tramuntana. So today we bring you a medium-low difficulty road cycling route that is perfect for discovering the Tramuntana mountain range at one of the best times of the year: The Port de Sóller - Fornalutx route along the Sa Figuera path.

SECTION 1: FROM AIMIA HOTEL TO PUIG MAJOR ROAD
To follow our route, we leave the Aimia Hotel towards the Camí de sa Figuera, located at the roundabout at the exit of the Port tunnel. Once there, we will begin our ascent until we reach, after about 20 minutes, the Sa Figuera viewpoint, the place that marks the end of our first ascent. Once there, you can stop to enjoy some fantastic views of the Port of Sóller. We then continue along the Sa Figuera road until we finally reach the junction of the Puig Major road, a stretch of about 5km with a positive difference in altitude of 68m and a duration of about 35 minutes from the Aimia Hotel

SECTION 2: ASCENT ALONG THE MA10 TO THE CROSSROADS OF FORNALUTX

Once we have reached the crossroads of the Puig Major road (Ma10) we will make our second and last ascent in the direction of Fornalutx. To do so, we will drive along one of the most iconic roads of the Tramuntana mountain range for a stretch of about 3 km and a positive difference in altitude of 187m between pines, alzinas and olive trees until we reach, after about 25 minutes, the Fornalutx crossroads.

SECTION 3: DESCENT TO FORNALUTX AND STOP AT THE SQUARE

At this point, we start our descent along the north road of Fornalutx until we reach the centre of this wonderful municipality. The descent from the crossroads will take us through a fantastic stretch with several bends that reveal an incredible panoramic view of the Valley of Sóller and Fornalutx from a unique vantage point. After about 5 minutes of descent from the crossroads you will reach the square of Fornalutx. Here we will stop for breakfast.

Awarded as one of the most beautiful villages in Spain on several occasions, Fornalutx is a picturesque municipality that respects the Mallorcan architectural tradition. Its streets and stone houses, full of plants, light and colour, reflect the Mallorcan style like nowhere else and it is, without a doubt, a destination that we recommend 100%. Once we are in the square, we can choose to have breakfast in one of its bars. We recommend Bar Deportivo, located on one of the corners of the square. It is one of the most picturesque bars in the municipality and is known for making its own bread. So we recommend ordering a pa amb oli for breakfast. They make them with lots of ingredients and you can order them by the slice, so you can create your own pa amb oli to your liking. Finally, after our breakfast in the square of Fornalutx, we will continue our route back to Puerto de Sóller.

SECTION 4: DESCENT FROM FORNALUTX TO ES PUIG
We leave the square of Fornalutx in the direction of Sóller along the main road, which runs parallel to the Torrent de Fornalutx. The road is in very good condition and you can enjoy the descent along a stretch between orange groves. Finally, after about 5 minutes and 2.4 km, you will reach the crossroads next to the Sant Bartomeu Agricultural Cooperative. At this point, continue straight on in the direction of Camí de Ses 7 Cases until you reach the entrance to the municipal football field of Sóller (Ca'n Maiol). Once here, turn right towards Ses Argiles, a very small neighbourhood on the outskirts of Sóller. After about 8 minutes and 1.4 km you will reach the Carretera del Puig Major again at the height of Es Puig

SECTION 5: FROM ES PUIG TO AIMIA HOTEL
Once here, we continue down the Ma10 to the left, passing by the Sóller Valley Fire Station until we reach the Monument roundabout in a few minutes. At this point we will connect with the Port de Sóller road, which will take us back to the Aimia Hotel in a pleasant walk of about 15 minutes and about 3.8 km along the first line of the Port de Sóller until we finally reach the Bar Roma. At this point we turn right to reach the Aimia Hotel and end our cycling route through the Tramuntana.
